Tahir Foundation in collaboration with Gadjah Mada University and PP Muhammadiyah are developing a philanthropic program to empower people. This program will be funded by a Tahir Foundation of Rp. 50 billion per year or around Rp. 250 billion for five years.
The program will focus on the areas of health, education and job creation. Cooperation is built on the principle of philanthropy, which is carrying out humanitarian action for the common good in meeting basic human and environmental needs.
To start the program, a talkshow entitled Philanthropy for Empowerment of the People was held at Graha Sabha Pramana. The talkshow was attended by Tahir Foundation founder Dato ‘Sri Tahir, Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir and UGM Chancellor Panut Mulyono.
The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Tahir Foundation, PP Muhammadiyah and UGM. As the host, UGM Rector, Panut Mulyono saw that this collaboration was very important and strategic in knitting back the Indonesian nation.
At least, this can be done through four aspects, with the first being the presence of Tahir Foundation through a philanthropic program directly targeting lower-level community groups. Second, the program aims to reduce the gap between social classes.
“So, it can strengthen social integration,” said Panut, Thursday (1/3).
Third, the program can improve trusting relationships, especially groups of religious, ethnic, racial and class identities. Finally, philanthropy will develop a community empowerment model according to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
Cooperation is also based on economic principles and the independence of the three elements. Both Tahir Foundation, Muhammadiyah and UGM are autonomous institutions with independent action and independent interests.
“This collaboration is based on the principle of mutual trust if each has a commitment to realize the common good as a nation and humanity according to their capacity,” said Panut.
