Tahir Foundation Donates Rp. 2 billion for Indonesian Mengajar
To achieve equal distribution of education in remote parts of Indonesia, the Founder and Chairperson of the Tahir Foundation, Dato’ Sri Prof. Dr. Tahir, M.B.A. signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chairperson of the Indonesian Teaching Movement Foundation, Bp. Hikmat Hardono in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 14 2018. Located at the Indonesia Mengajar (IM) office, also attended by the Chairperson of Indonesia Mengajar and the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Mr. Anies Baswedan.
Tahir Foundation on this occasion made a donation of Rp. 2 billion to YIM which will send junior educators volunteer to remote areas, such as Nunukan (North Kalimantan) which borders directly with Malaysia and the Bintang Mountains (Papua) which borders directly with Papua New Guinea. This collaboration is based on a commitment to work with communities on the Indonesian border, advancing education for children there.
Starting from 2010 until now, Indonesia Mengajar has sent 841 Young Teachers who have been assigned to 247 elementary schools spread across 28 districts throughout Indonesia. Seeing the positive impact in the community through sending young teaching volunteers, moved Dato’ Sri Tahir to participate in activities to advance the education of Indonesian children. He hopes that this will encourage Indonesia Mengajar to send more qualified young teaching volunteers to various regions, and hopes that upon returning to duty the young teaching volunteers can continue their education to serve in the field of education.
Mr. Anis Baswedan added, Young Teaching Volunteers in different locations had unique and memorable experiences, but all of them had a goal of teaching well. After a number of young teaching volunteers shared their experiences in a number of remote areas. And together with Mr. Hikmat Hadono, we are very grateful to Dato ‘Sri Tahir for the social actions carried out.
This support is also a tangible form of the Tahir Foundation actively participating in efforts to help solve educational problems in the region in a sustainable manner. Tahir Foundation is also in line with the values carried out by Indonesia Mengajar, which plays an active role and initiates activities in the region to discover the potential of the community in advancing education. Not only about education in the regions, the development of young people as future leaders is also important through this program.
